Talofa Lava Parents and Caregivers
Welcome back to
Rowandale School for 2014. My name is Junior Siilata and I am very excited to
assist your child in their learning this year. Over
the past few days, we have been developing our treaty and routines for our
classroom that will enable us to learn in a positive and caring environment. I am Samoan
and have lived in South Auckland for the majority of my life. I am looking
forward to the new journey with the fantastic ‘Soaring Spartans’ in Room 21. I
hope that you had a relaxing and refreshing holiday break and that the students
are excited to come back to school.
For your
information here are a few notices:
Uniform: It was really
awesome seeing the students come back to school in their uniforms. Due to the
weather it is very important that students remember to wear the correct school
hat or a brim hat for sun protection. Please make sure that each uniform item
is named so your child can take care of their belongings.
Swimming: Our swimming
days are on Monday, Wednesday and Friday every week. Please ensure your child brings their togs
and towel in a named plastic bag on these days.
Topic: For the first
half of this term our topic is ‘Soaring to Success’. The focus is on developing our understanding
of our school motto and what it means to be successful. The second half of the term will be devoted
to ‘Treasure’. The focus will be
recognising that we all interpret treasure to be different and to find out what
is special to me.
Educational
Trips:
Learning outside of the classroom is very important for our students. There will be several trips this year, which
will be very exciting! More information about these events will be sent closer
to the time.
Homework: For homework, the children will have a reading book each night and maths
basic facts sheet. It would be great if you could support your child in these
areas.
If you have any
queries about this information or school in general please don’t hesitate to
contact me.
I look forward to working along side you and your child this year.
